Eleanor Ferguson

Fellow, Native Children & Youth Funding

Eleanor Ferguson is a committed Fellow at the Native Children’s Funding Project, part of the Children’s Funding Project. Born and raised on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, Eleanor is a proud member of the Oglala Tituwan Band of the Oceti Sakowin (7 Council Fires of the Dakota/Lakota/Nakota Nations).

Rooted deeply in Lakota spirituality and traditions, Eleanor is dedicated to empowering Indigenous youth and providing them with the essential tools, resources, and opportunities to become leaders of transformative change within their communities. She believes in the power of unity and inclusivity, recognizing that the strength of a community comes from embracing diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

Eleanor’s vision is grounded in the wisdom of the Lakota culture and a radical commitment to self-determination and sovereignty for Indigenous peoples. Her work centers on nurturing the spiritual, cultural, and social growth of Indigenous children and youth, while also welcoming allies and partners from all walks of life who share the goal of equity and justice.

Guided by the Lakota values of respect, courage, and interconnectedness, Eleanor strives to create an inclusive environment where everyone can contribute to the betterment of society. She is committed to dismantling systemic barriers and creating pathways to equity and justice, honoring the sacred responsibility to uplift her people and preserve the Lakota way of life for generations to come.
