2025 Summer Data Visualization InternAbout Us: Children’s Funding Project is a nonprofit social impact organization that helps communities, states, and Native nations expand equitable opportunities for children and youth through strategic public financing. Read more about us at childrensfundingproject.org/.About the Position: Children’s Funding Project is seeking a detail-oriented and self-starting individual to join our fiscal data infrastructure team for a six-month internship starting in June 2025. With guidance from the cost modeling senior manager, the data visualization intern will help Children’s Funding Project deliver on its mission by translating complex financial and cost data into clear, compelling visualizations that assist state and community partners in understanding and sharing their cost data. You will work with the team to develop data visualization capabilities that improve and expand the accessibility and usability of cost analyses and modeling results. In addition, you will provide administrative and other support to the project team, including data analysis, notetaking, scheduling, and knowledge management tasks. The data visualization intern will have the opportunity to do the following:Create interactive data visualization frameworks and templates that clearly communicate cost analysis findings.Transform raw data from various sources into meaningful visual stories.Design flexible dashboards that allow stakeholders to explore cost model and cost analysis results.Support the development of presentations and reports for diverse audiences.Contribute to the team’s visualization standards and best practices.Contribute to other projects as assigned.QualificationsPursuing a degree in a relevant area (ex. data science, economics, public policy, finance) and/or early career experience in a related profession. Coursework in information design or data visualization (preferred, not required).Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Power BI.Basic statistical analysis capabilities.Experience creating templates and frameworks that others can use.Understanding of financial concepts and cost modeling principles (preferred, not required).Team-oriented attitude with an ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a remote environment (e.g., experience completing group projects at school, co-developing and editing documents or presentations online, taking online courses).Additional Skill SetsExcellent communication abilities, particularly translating complex information for nontechnical audiencesAbility to understand various stakeholder perspectives (advocates, policymakers, community leaders)Storytelling capability to make data compelling and actionableDetail-oriented with strong design sensibilitiesTime Commitment, Compensation, and Location20-30 hours per week for up to 6 months. Starting and ending dates and weekly work schedules can be adjusted to accommodate time zone differences, as well as classwork and other commitments.Compensation is $20 per hour.This is a fully remote internship.
